Class FAQs

Why should I carry a concealed weapon?

The police do an outstanding job, but unfortunately they can’t be there to protect you at every moment. All the police can do is respond to a call about a crime, and by then it could be too late for you. Ultimately, the responsibility for the protection of you and your family lies with you. Concealed handguns provide a means to protect yourself from attack by the predatory criminals in our society.

How much is the class?

$75. A range fee of $10 can be charged for expenses, but this depends upon the situation and sometimes is less and often isn’t charged at all.

What do I need to bring to the class?

1.  A pistol that you plan to fire (although, on some occasions, I may ask you to use my .22).

2.  50 rounds of ammunition for the pistol you bring.

3.  Eye and ear protection.

4.  A holster for your pistol.

5.  Payment (unless you have prepaid, which I usually require)

6.  A gun cleaning kit (the cheap Walmart variety is fine).

What are the class objectives?

What should I expect from the class?

Well, it depends.  If you are new to handguns, expect lots of good information.  Some of the video section gets a little tedious for some (remember, this class was put together by politicians and lawyers), but even if you have been around guns your whole life, you’ll probably learn something.  You’ll also hear all of the KY state laws regarding when you are permitted to use deadly force for protection.

What are the requirements for the live fire exercise?

  • 11/20 Required To Pass
  • Distance 7 yds (yes, I know that is incredibly close).
  • Scoring: Any round, which hits the silhouette portion of the target, counts as a hit. Cutting the line count as a hit. 11 out of 20 hits are required.

The instructor may conduct as many practice rounds as neccessary, until he or she feels comfortable with the student’s skill level and ability to pass. One retest is permitted.
